  • Hej from Frankrijke!

    Hej everybody!

My name is Marco, I live in the french Alps close to Geneva.

I'm a keen flyfisherman, and had the pleasure to fish Sweden and Norway over past years (circa 2000), mainly fr trout and grayling (Idrefjell Area, Vindelalv, Alvdalen, Glomma and Rendalen, Gudbrandalslagen, Namsen...)

I truly lovescandinavian countries , you are lucky to live in such preserved landscape and nature, with water, forests and moutains everywhere, you know that?!!

I will be travelling to Sweden again soon, and no need to say I'm really excited about that.
This time, I will be in search of Pike in the area of Stockholm.

Any tips or informations are warmly welcomed !!!

    see you around fellows!!

Hi Marc, and welcome to the forum.
Good to hear you've had some pleasant experiences earlier, and I hope your upcoming trip meets your expectations.
If your time is limited I'd recommend using a fishing guide in order to maximise your chances of some nice catches, there are plenty of guides in the areas surrounding Stockholm.
A couple of links to get you started, although there are many more skilled guides as well

If you wish to go fishing without a guide I'd recommend talking to the staff of the local fishing stores - they usually have a really good grasp of suitable places, baits and any local regulations.

I think you should contact a guide, then you get a boat and you fish with someone who really knows the waters well.

There are probably many pike fishermen here on the forum who also would like to take you out fishing.

As you said, there is water everywhere, and well... thats always good when you know the area but it's alot harder when you are new to it. Swedes generally are VERY restrictive with giving away their hotspots. I know people that gets the shills if they even see another boat or fisherman when they are out. Big pike is often very picky when they choose their locations and if you find the right places it is not unusual that several large individuals are in the same area.

Alot of big pikes fall for the baits every year in the Stockholm region, but you have to know the hotspots or be really good at reading a water with the help of charts, photos etc. if you don't have the time for trial and error.

Are you going to flyfish or what method were you thinking of? Going out in the baltic seas archipilagio around stockholm is always one way to do it. This however requires a boat, preferably with a sonar. Here you can reach secluded areas such as bays with reed and water lillies. An other option is to visit one of the larger lakes in the area such as mälaren or hjälmaren.

The way I approach a new water in summer is to try and find a bay in direct connection to deeper water with the wind going from the water and into the bay. Start fishing outside the bay and work your way into it. Depending on the surrounding water I would start at perhaps 5-15 meters and go more shallow until I make contact.

The most popular fishing-methods are Spinning or Jerk, floatfishing or bottom with live or dead bait, trolling or float trolling... Flyfishing has in the last few years become more and more popular, even if it's still only a very small percentage of the total.

Hope the information atleast gives you a hint and if you would like tips about baits and other stuff feel free to send me a PM or just ask more questions in the thread.

          Wow, thanks for your welcome!

I have posted a quick description of my ...let's say expectations here :
          http://www.fiskesnack.com/forum/foru...es%C3%A4llskap

Mooki and Mr Dejefors, thanks fr the links and advice, I will have some readings about the guiding activities around Stockholm tonight!
it surely is the most efficient way to discover the waters, of course.

Discharged, thank you fr your very valuable advice, do you happen to know the areas I've mentionned in my fiskeresor thread?

Swedes generally are VERY restrictive with giving away their hotspots
I can tell you this does not only concerns the Swedes!!
And that is something I can easily undestand.Nothing compares to finding your own hotspot after months or years of searches, enquiries and blank days...you wouldn't give it away to a newcomer...
