There is a big missconception in Sweden about spring time fishing, you can fish the same speed eny time of year, infact its been said in the UK you carnt wind the lure faster than than the pike can swim eny time of the year!!! fact,, plus having a softer top action on the rod helps casting and with working of some lures!!!!! many stiff rods just bounce fish off to...

Not entirely true at all time, Willie..Just before ice occures in autumn, it is a good idea to speed up a LOT if pikes are slow and just follows..In springtime just when ice breaks, water is around 0 to 1 degree and pikes are a bit stiff and slow. I have had follower that simply could not move faster than almost not at all. In such cases it is a good idea to use suspending jerks..I mean REALLY suspending jerks like some handmade things like Punnisher and other super lures, and make pauses of up to 5-10 seconds (Those lures just hangs there)..But once the temperature moves up a little bit, like in sunny bays and so on, the is no limit to how fast you can fish..Even if you fish the fastest you ever can, even slow fish swims faster than the lure..
Sometimes even superfast retrieved spinnerbaits can do the trick in early spring.
Another reason pikes in spring just follows, is because they are in the mood for sex, and not eating (Look at yourself..Do you care about food when you have fun with ****?)..In such cases, forget daytime fishing and fish early in the morning and late in the evenings. Quite often big pikes go out to eat after "doing their thing"..
Really pig pikes sometimes spawns at several occasions..They spawn for a while..Go out to have a break (perhaps they smoke a fag..hehe) the go back in to sspawn again and so on..
Main thing is to remember there are NO RULES in pikefishing..And what sets a good pikefisherman (or any fisherman) apart from a bad one, is the ability to adapt and try and test and so on until he breaks the code for the day..That is more important than temperature or the almanack or what lure he "should use cause everybody says so" or whatever...
