How to tie the White Akroyd.
Let’s start with the hook, for making this an simple guide I have chosen to use an 1/0 Mustad 80500B Salmon hook. First of all add the thread to the hook as follows.
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_01.jpg
The next things to do are adding the back tinsel.
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_02.jpg
Wrap the tinsel forward to the hook point and secure (leave no gaps!).
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_03.jpg
Now you have to choose a matching topping from a Golden Pheasant, Put it between you fingers and hold against the top of the hook. Make three rounds with the thread have a look so it’s in place and then correct and secure.
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_04.jpg
Now it’s time for the small Jungle Cock feathers one of each side of the topping but place them a bit above.
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_05.jpg
The next things to add are the black Ostrich herl. Tie it in and make 3-4 round and secure make sure the fibres are pointing backwards. If they point wrong change the direction.
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_06.jpg
Now it’s time to add some stuff start with adding the yellow cock then I usually ad one 10cm of small oval gold tinsel and one 10cm small silver and last 10cm medium oval silver tinsel.
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_07.jpg
For the body add 1/3 of yellow/gold seal dubbing.
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_08.jpg
After you have secured the yellow/gold seal dubbing 1/3 of the hook it’s time for the tinsels i usually start with the medium silver tinsel 2 rounds and secure. Then I take the small oval silver tinsel besides the medium tinsel 2 rounds and secure. Now you take the small oval gold tinsel reverse round over the two other tinsel 2 rounds and secure.
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_09.jpg
Now take the Yellow cock and wrap 3 round pushing all fibres backwards and secure.
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_10.jpg
Add the black colour heron feather wet the fingers and push the fibres backwards then secure to the hook.
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_11.jpg
Because this fly has a dubbing body I cheating cutting the tinsels and add them again to get them nice looking. So add the tinsels as above again and then take black seal dubbing and wrap some rounds near the end of the hook and secure.
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_12.jpg
Ok so back to the tinsel 3 round of the silver oval medium tinsel and secure. 3 rounds of the small oval silver tinsel and secure. Finally 3 reversed rounds of small gold tinsel and secure.
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_13.jpg
Take the heron and make 4-5 rounds forward while pushing the fibres backwards and secure.
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_14.jpg
Wet the heron fibres drag them down and backwards gently.
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_15.jpg
Add a natural Guinea Fowl feather with right length of fibres.
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_16.jpg
Make 3 rounds with the Guinea fowl pushing the fibres backwards secure and wet the fibres drag them down gently.
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_17.jpg
Now the hard part :D take 2 small strips of white Swan (Turkey will do) if you can’t get Swan. Turkey is a lot cheaper to, mount the wings and secure them.
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_18.jpg
Add some Jungle Cock to the sides (I like it) secure the wing properly and start building a small head.
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_19.jpg
Add one thin layer of clear varnish on the head. It makes the head hard then the clear
Varnish is much more effective blending with the thread.
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_20.jpg
When the varnish has dried add one thin layer of black varnish.
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_21.jpg
The last thing to do is one more layer of clear varnish on the head to give it a really good look.
http://www.fiskesnack.com/artiklar/002_white_akroyd_22.jpg
The finished White Akroyd congratulations! You have to excuse me for my lack of English but hopefully you will understand anyway. I’m not an expert tier just doing some fishing flies and of course having fun meanwhile good luck and happy tying.
