I have noticed that a lots of guys here use "Jerkbaits", what is the difference between them and "Wobblers"??

How are they used and do they catch more fish????

Hi Chris!!

A jerkbait in the purist sense has know built in action, the action comes from the movements of the angler via braided line and a stiff actioned rod!! but of course there are exeptions, some jerkbaits have a some degree of action when straight retrived!!

A wobbler has a vain on the front, to first cause wobble, and secondly make it dive!! but they can be fished well on a jerkbait outfit, you can break the straight retrive with twitches and jerks,

As for catching more or less fish, i would say there equal, but ive found the hit from the pike to be often far more aggresive!! sometimes brutal!! When fishing with jerkbaits!! they seem to trigger a differant kind response!!

Jerkbaiting its something once you try it, an have a few pike!! you get addicted, its not just the fish, but lure collecting its a worse disease than carp tackle!!! trust me!!

But if your thinking of giveing it a try first time!! try calling PA Högberg at www.lundgrensfiske.com hes got plenty of sound advice, and hes English is better than mine, well at least his spelling!!

Thanks William, i will have a look there.
I take it that jerkbaits are topwater lures??? as they don't have a vien.

........................... and speaking of wobbler collections......... well, i am a victim of collecting wobblers ;)

There are topwater jerkbaits, then you have slow sinkers, fast sinkers, some rise up in the water when paused, others just seem almost hang, or surspened, the choice is endless, some wobble and shake while there sinking!! some dart, left to right, others glide, its just endless!!!

I think that you should start of with a couple of Buster Jerks and Salmo Sliders. They are the most newbie-friendly jerkbaits I know of. They glide from side to side very easily and cost around 130 kr which is a very good price when it comes to jerkbaits.

Newbie friendly :) Yep, i am a "Snag-Man" wherever there are snags i seem to find them :(
130 kr isn't cheap for one lure, i think i will have to sell / swap some of my rapala's

Do you have any pics of these Invandare-friendly jerkythingies??

Thanks for the info mate :)

Here's the Salmo Slider: http://www.cwcab.com/salmoslider.htm I'd recomemd you to buy the floater if you're gonna fish from a riverbank since the sinker tends to sink very fast and get snagged if you are not used to the technique or get a nice "skatbo" on your reel :P.

Buster Jerk:
http://www.cwcab.com/eg048.htm Slow sinker so it can be fished very high up in the water.

I only seem to get "Little Gurkahs" on my rapalas.

I take it that a "skatbo" is a birds nest?? :)

http://shop.lundgrensfiske.com/Graphics/Products/89.jpg

A jerkbait combo like this from Lundgrens,is a great start, it wont set you back more than 1600kr, it will make a nice baitcasting out fit for jerkbaits big wobblers, and a great trolling rod!!

As for lures!!! the choice is endless, but start with three baits to cover three columes of water, surface, middwater, and bottom!! and proven fish catching pattens!!

Topwater choice!!!

1) Butcher Dancin Raider, ive caught more 20lb pike on this lure than eny other!! you can get them rather cheap at www.attitudebaits.com, you fish it with a rythmatic down ward jerks!! eny colour, there a f@cking dinner bell for big pike, rattles like bongo drums!!!

Middwater choice!!

2) A salmo Slider in large sinking!!! go for a natural colour, ie RSH or RR, they have plenty of belly flash!! There a idiot proof lure!! and a pike magnet, a great side to side darting action, easy to cast!! can be trolled, straight retrived, or jerked again with soft down ward jerks!!

Bottom choice!!

3) Spring Dawg!! in Cisco, first choice but all colours catch!! there easy to cast all day long, unlike there bigger brothers!! theres a hell of a lot of bull sh@t writen about Bull dawgs!!! its all crap!!! you just cast them out, let them sink, wind them in!!! they catch pike!!!!

Can't i use a spinning rod and "haspelrulle"????

Shanghai Lilly
2004-10-05, 12:48
You could, but the rings on a spin rod are very small, so it not very practical, plus its worth getting to grips with a multi reel, once you use one for lure fishing theres no going back!!!

A better comprimise would be a 11ft carp rod and 4000 to 8000 size baitrunner, loaded with braid, you could easy fish the three lures i picked out.

But give a baitcasting set up a try!! maybe best to spend a day on the water with someone first, show you the ropes with casting a multi reel,

I could be wrong, but isn't wobblers a "Swenglish" term, aren't they called crankbaits in English? At least in the US they seem to be called crankbaits.
