For two days ago the ice was still there :( I hope to be able to wet my boat for the easter, send me a PM if you want to join up for fishing :)

Hi Marauder, nice to meet you! Well we (the wife and our Mops!) were planning to really just shore fish somewhere new but it could definitely be good to meet up to chat for some local knowledge! What day did you plan to go? We don't have a car so we'll be going by bus from Tierp to whichever bus stop is nearest to somewhere fishable, I was trying to find out where to buy the tickets and I read you can get them from a machine at the "armour" but I wasn't sure what the armour would be? Do you plan to do an "ice check" again this week before deciding whether to go or not?

Hi again :) Im not really sure, but i think that friday and/or sunday, depending on the weather. It aint so easy to go by bus to tämnaren, its i bit "off" from, well, everywhere. You will have to walk about 5km from the busstop at lindsbro to come to gäddviken, and its even longer from the busstop before harbo to järpebo. If you just want to shorefish i would normaly rekomend dalälven to you, but now the water is REALLY high so im not sure its fishable at all..

Fishing licence for tämnaren can you buy in östervåla, at the hardware store. Or at the machine in harbonäs (but that is even longer, its a few km from järpebo). It cost about 60:- for one day, and 250:- for a year.

Yep, i will try to do a check again soon. I really hope that it will dissapear tomorrow..

Still me, I signed up a proper account as connecting with FB wasn't working so great :)

250 for the year? That's pretty good if it's as fishable and contains a wide variety of fish as it sounds, we're especially interested in the catfish it has, a species I've never caught! We were thinking about taking the bus to one of these stops:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&q=bus&aq=&sll=60.175395,17.298918&sspn=0.017438,0.066047&ie=UTF8&rq=1&ev=zi&split=1&radius=1.36&hq=bus&hnear=&ll=60.176697,17.308531&spn=0.034874,0.132093&z=14

That way we're only about 750m or so from the lake, only thing is I know that some of the lake is privately owned as we actually found out about it from this holiday apartment advertisement: http://www.ferienhaus2100.com/nc/de/66/holiday/fewo/Am_See_Taemnaren so of course we don't want to get there and find out we can't fish! I emailed the apartment owner to ask if it's possible to pay them for a day's fishing but so far no reply.

I guess if we can't sort out Tämnaren in time we'll probably end up going somewhere like Marma, with it being a river I assume it's defrosted by now!

Another one we were considering was Strömaren, it's not too far from Tierp and seems to have a good choice of fish, have you tried there before? Any luck? :)

So far we've just fished at Skärplinge, had to go there to pick up a package and I saw the river opens up nice and wide for a stretch, was very cold and windy still but we managed to get our first fish of the year so that was something :)

Yep, it aint expensive to fish in tämnaren. But it's a bit special, just over 2m deep and a PLENTY of stones ;-)

It holds a lot of (big) pearch, pike, pikepeach. And also carpfishes (ruda & braxen) and lake (lota lota).

At Aspnäs it's usually a lot of "vass" (i dont know whats it called in english) in the water that makes it difficult to fish there, but this early at the year it might work ok. I havent been there in over 5 years now...

I have fished in tämnaren in 15 years now, and i have never got my fishing licence checked...

Dalälven (Marma, Älvkarleby etc) have been ice free for almost a moth now, but the water is really high..

I have never fished in Strömaren, but there is a nice P&T water in Söderfors not far from Tierp called hjällsjön. But its probably frozen..

If just the ice let go of tämnaren you have a very nice water, but it's a lot easier to fish there with a boat..

Your wife and dog are almost as cute as my girl and dog ;)

Aha funnily enough I was going to ask about Söderfors as well as I've seen the big lake on the map, wasn't sure of the name of the lake though, we only do catch and release so that's no problem :) Does it require a license?

BTW what kind of fishing do you do? Being English I'm born and raised on bog standard coarse fishing with a float so that's always my preference, waiting on a delivery of 500 worms from Germany which hopefully will arrive today, great way to get rid of refuse in an environmentally friendly manner and you always have bait in the wormery in the basement ;) We also try fishing with lures but it's new to us so we're amateurs in that regard, I was also thinking of getting some bleak/roach from the river near us (Tämnarån) and trying some deadbait fishing, we really don't like killing anything we catch but figure we can be forgiven for a few small bleak/roach which would be pike food anyways ;)

A license for hjällsjön can be bought at the local gas station in söderfors, it costs about 80:-/a day. The lake is "rotenoled" (poisoned to kill all pikes) but it did'nt work 100% so there is still a few pikes in the water, but besides that it's only steelheads in the water. They have a website, http://www.soderfors.nu/hjallsjon.htm

Hehe, that's a nice relaxing type of fishing :) Personaly i fish with lures, and also jerkbait for pike. But i would like to try deadbait trolling, it seems do be deadly effective for pike. For pike i use "catch and release", but i love to eat a nice, fresh pearch :)

If you want an inside tip for a lure to tämnaren, the swedish "abu droppen silver 8g" (http://www.beten.nu/se/art/droppen-8-gram.php) is deadly for pearch there :)

Aha I was at that website yesterday, I couldn't identify the specific spot on google map though as I was trying to pinpoint the closest bus stop :) Another one that seems interesting is in your neck of the woods, Trösken? Seems to have a nice variety of fish and the license can be bought from a tackle store in Gävle which seems convenient enough, have you fished there?

Maruder
2011-04-18, 13:04
Hehe, okey :)

I have looked at trösken a few times, and it seems nice! I've never fished there though. A plus is that they have boats for rent there! In Gävle you also have gavleån and testeboån, the license for gavleån is for free http://www.gavle.se/gavlean, and a license for testeboån kan be bought at "konsum triangeln" in stigslund (north gävle) for about 60:-/a day. Testeboån holds nice pikes, and a lot of other fishes. Gavleån holds a lot of pikepearch and trout, but it's "cityfishing", 500 meters from my apartment ;)

Worms arrived safe and sound, just collected them from ICA, bet the checkout girl would freak if she realised what she was handing me over the counter! 500 German worms of all sizes, now we just need to pick a spot, thanks to your wonderful help we should be closer to arranging somewhere, I'll now research those ones you mentioned in your last post, I Emailed Berras Sportfiske to ask about ice levels on Trösken and got a pretty quick reply which was cool:

Hi.

I have called some guys who told me that the ice is still there in some
parts! If that means that it's not fishable because of the ice I really
don’t know...

Best regards - Mikael

HAHA! You think so huh? ;)

It's always nice to be able to help! The people at berras gävle is always nice =)

I've just read in the local paper that the water is record high in testeboån, so the regular spots there might be difficult to fish by..

I'll let you know about the ice status in tämnaren later in the week :)

Great news! I've just got a SMS from my father, tämnaren is now ice free! The water is pretty low, the "water leveling thing" in ubblixbo/tämnarån is completely open!

2011-04-18, 20:29
Aha that's great, shame about the water level situation, they really need to look after the fish better :(

Maruder
2011-04-18, 20:40
Yep, but for now im just happy that the ice is gone ;-)

There are a lot of farmers around the lake, a lot of land will dissapear if they would rise up the water...

True, true :)

To be honest we're leaning towards Hjällsjön as Söderfors is very easy to get to by bus direct from Tierp in only 19 minutes, get the bus to Söderfors Kyrkmyren then it's just a few 100m's walk to "Söderfors Bad & Camping" where I read I can buy a license and also hire a boat? :)

Maruder
2011-04-19, 10:15
It's a nice little lake, but check the ice status there.. Im not sure that the camping is open? But if not, the license can be bought at the gas station so it's not a big problem :)

I have rented a boat there, but that must be almost 10 years ago..

I sent an email to info@soderforsherrgard.se to ask about the ice condition, that's supposedly the tourist information centre for Söderfors, so far no reply :(

Hi Ola :)

Hmm that's strange, on the apartment rent website they show a picture of a caught catfish:

Placebo
2011-04-20, 09:18
Oh so it's not technically a catfish? Interesting, well it looks fascinating and I'd love to catch one! Any other lakes that have them in this region? What do they like to eat? :)

Maruder
2011-04-20, 09:35
It's actually the only freshwater living cod-fish :)

The eat at night, near the bottom. The most regular way to catch them is by using an heavy (40-100g) spoon, with a shrimp on the hook. You hit the bottom hard a few times with the lure, the vibrations atract the fishes :) They are almost blind so the color of the lureaint so important..

Looks like we may be giving tämnaren a try today, I wanted to go to Marma or Söderfors but I've been out voted by the wife! :)

Change of plans, we are going to Söderfors after all! Not Hedesunda though as there's no bus stops anywhere near the fishing bridge, which is a bit useless :(

Maruder
2011-04-24, 17:10
So, did you catch any fish?

Tämnaren was a bit tricky this weekende, we fished for about 5 houres a day fri/sat/sunsay, and got about 10 pikes (the biggest was about 3kg) and a pearch (0.8kg) so the fishing didn't go so well, but the weather was kickass!

Sorry for taking so long to reply, no we didn't catch any fish, only stayed a couple of hours as I got a sense pretty quickly that there'd be nothing biting, was a warm sunny day and there was zero surface activity and unsurprisingly we didn't get a single bite :(

We went to Marma on Saturday and that was a different story, had a really great few hours, caught a bunch of roach and silver fish and the best fish was the last one of the day, a bream knocking on towards 1kg which probably makes it my biggest ever bream so I was happy :) Of course we didn't take a camera and the sun was right behind me so the only pics were with the phone and really bad, but there's a bream in there somewhere!
